LOA pack summaries: what is included and how to customise them

Last updated: October 12, 2026

This article explains what the LOA pack summary templates extract from a provider's letter of authority response, how to run several plans at once, and what a bespoke version can add.

An LOA pack summary turns the documents a provider sends back after a letter of authority into a structured, table-based summary in your firm's question order. Upload the response, pick the LOA template for the product type, and Emma extracts the plan details so a paraplanner checks rather than retypes.

Before you begin

  • Ask support@advisoryai.com to enable the five standard LOA pack templates on your account. They are included in your licence but are not visible until switched on.
  • Gather the provider's response documents for the plan. Keep each document under 100 pages and upload only the relevant pages of long policy documents.
  • Admin staff who only need LOA packs can be given a support licence, which gives LOA-pack-only access. See Licences and Roles Explained.

Which LOA pack templates are included?

Five standard templates, one per product type: pensions DC, pensions DB, investments, bonds and protection. Use the one that matches the plan. The templates are universal across firms, so every firm's standard pack extracts the same fields.

What does the summary include?

The output is a set of tables, one per section. The standard sections are provider information, contributions, safeguarded rights, fund information, plan details, and drawdown and crystallisation. Policy number, client name, safeguarded benefits and protected tax-free cash are the most reliable fields across providers. Charge terminology is the weak spot: providers label the same charge differently (TER, OCF, AMC), so check charges against the source. Every extracted value links back to the document it came from.

Please note: the standard pack does not analyse the asset allocation of the existing holdings. That is a bespoke addition; see below.

Can I run several plans in one summary?

Yes. Drop all of a client's plans of the same product type into one LOA pack summary and Emma processes them one after another, so eight pensions can go into one run. Keep product types separate: pensions in one run, investments in another, and so on.

Please note: formatting can break when more than four packs are run together. For a client with many plans, run them in batches of up to four.

Can the fields be changed for our firm?

Not on the standard templates, which are shared by every firm. A bespoke LOA pack template built for your firm can. A bespoke version can add:

  • Firm-specific fields and extra lines or breakdowns you normally ask for
  • A missing-item checker that flags fields the provider did not answer
  • Field-by-field extraction instructions, for example where a particular provider puts a figure
  • Repeated tables per plan
  • Asset allocation of the existing holdings (equities, cash, bonds, other) and charges taken straight from the ceding scheme documents
  • Checklist items that are for your team only, left as fixed wording for manual completion rather than filled by Emma

When designing fields, prefer values over yes or no questions (see "Also asked" below). If a field in your current template is unclear, such as the bond classification field, email support@advisoryai.com with the template name and an example output with the field highlighted; the team replies with what the field extracts and which part of the provider response it reads. To request a bespoke LOA pack, email support@advisoryai.com with your current checklist and two or three provider responses, and ask your account manager about the cost. The build process is the same as for other custom templates: Custom report templates: what to send, how changes work, and giving feedback.

Does AdvisoryAI send LOAs or chase providers?

No. AdvisoryAI covers the response side: upload what the provider returns and the summary is produced in your question order. Sending letters of authority to providers and chasing them is not part of the platform.

Also asked

If the template asks whether fund fact sheets are available, what will the AI put there?

Only "yes" or "no", because that is all the question allows. A more useful field pulls through the value itself: ask for the ISIN codes of the funds held and Emma extracts them from the provider response, which tells your paraplanner which fact sheets to fetch. Fields that are really internal checklist items, such as "fact sheets requested", can stay in the template as fixed wording for your team to complete by hand rather than having Emma try to fill them.

Next steps

  • Run your next provider response through the matching standard template and check the charges table against the source.
  • If your team's checklist has fields the standard pack does not cover, list them and send them to support@advisoryai.com.
