Emma Express : The new way to draft your reports
Last updated: August 25, 2026
Emma is AdvisoryAI's report writing assistant — she takes your meeting notes, fact finds, illustrations and other client documents and can draft a range of reports from them. Emma Express is a new and more effective way of using Emma.
Express changes how Emma reads your documents. Rather than summarising everything first and then writing from that summary, Express reads your source documents directly and pulls information straight into the relevant section.
This means reports generate faster, figures match your source documents more closely, and there's less to iterate afterwards.
Please note: Emma Express is currently being rolled out across our platform. If you don't see the Express option yet, don't worry — it hasn't reached your account just yet.
How to Generate a Report with Express
Click Create Report at the top of the screen
Select the template you want to use
Choose the client the report is for
Add your documents — drag and drop them in, or click the upload box to pull them from your device or SharePoint
Select the documents you want Emma to use. Selected documents highlight green
Switch on the Express toggle. It turns blue when enabled
Click Next
After this, Emma reads your documents, maps the information to the relevant sections, and writes the report. This takes a few moments.

Reviewing Your Report
Once your report is generated, you'll see review sections and citations down the left-hand side. These show you where each piece of information came from — which document, and which section it fed into. Use these to check the report against your source documents before you finalise it.
Document Classification
Express works by identifying what each of your uploaded documents actually is — a fact find, an illustration, a risk questionnaire, a cost and charges document — and then only pulling from the right ones for each section.
An objectives section, for example, has no reason to pull from an illustration, so Express restricts it to your meeting notes and fact find. Cost and charges works the other way — it draws from illustrations and charges documents rather than meeting notes.
This targeting is why figures come through more accurately: each section only ever sees the documents relevant to it.
Express vs Snapshot
Snapshot is the original method Emma used to build reports. It worked by summarising all of your documents first, then writing each section from that summary rather than from the documents themselves.
Express removes that middle step. Emma reads the classified source documents directly for each section, so figures like pension values, charges, plan numbers and fund allocations come straight from the files you uploaded, rather than from a summary of them.
Snapshot | Express | |
|---|---|---|
How documents are read | Summarised first, then written from the summary | Read directly, section by section |
Document targeting | All documents available to all sections | Each section restricted to relevant document types (based on doc classifier?) |
Generation speed | Slower | Faster |
Review effort | More amendments needed | Fewer amendments needed |
Getting the Best From Express
Express is only as good as what you give it. A few things that make a noticeable difference:
Upload only the documents your report actually needs. It's tempting to add everything you have on a client just to be safe, but this tends to work against you. When Emma has to work through a large pile of documents, it becomes harder for Emma to consistently pick out what is relevant.
A smaller, well-chosen set of current, relevant documents gives Emma a clearer picture to work from.
PDFs generally work better than spreadsheets for figures-heavy content like valuations and charges tables. (Do I include this?)
Check the citations before finalising. They exist so you can verify quickly rather than re-reading everything.
