Integrating with Microsoft SharePoint

Last updated: October 12, 2026

This article shows you how to connect SharePoint, save generated reports into it, attach SharePoint files to a client, and let Atlas read your SharePoint documents directly.

Many firms keep client documents in SharePoint rather than in their back office system. Connecting it means you do not move anything: documents stay where they are, finished reports save straight back, and Atlas can read what is there when you ask it a question.

Before you begin

  • Each user connects SharePoint individually, with their own Microsoft account. One connection does not cover the firm.
  • Connect your calendar first under Tools & Settings, then Integrations, if you have not already.
  • AdvisoryAI can only see what your Microsoft account can see. If a folder is hidden from you in SharePoint, it is hidden from Atlas too.
  • Some firms' IT settings block third-party connections, and the same block stops the Outlook calendar connection. If the Connect step fails, your IT provider has to grant AdvisoryAI access to your Microsoft account before SharePoint or Outlook will connect. Email support@advisoryai.com with the error shown and your IT provider's ticket reference; the team sends the permission details your IT provider needs to approve.

Connect your SharePoint account

  1. Click the cog icon in the bottom left of the screen.
  2. Select Integrations.
  3. Find SharePoint and click Connect.
  4. Sign in with your Microsoft account. If you are already signed in to that account in your browser, it may connect without asking you to sign in again.

Save a report to SharePoint

  1. Open the report you want to save.
  2. Click Save to SharePoint. This button only appears once SharePoint is connected.
  3. Choose an existing folder, or create a new one.
  4. Choose DOCX or PDF.
  5. Click Save. The file appears in SharePoint in the folder you chose, ready to open, edit or send on.

Attach a SharePoint document to a client

  1. Go to Clients and open the client's profile.
  2. Open the Documents tab.
  3. Click Attach from SharePoint.
  4. Select the file. It is now on the client's record in AdvisoryAI, usable by Atlas and available as an input when you create a report, with no download and upload in between.

Outlook .msg files stored in SharePoint are supported, so a saved email can be attached the same way.

Ask Atlas about your SharePoint documents

Atlas can search your SharePoint directly, so a document does not have to be attached to a client before Atlas can read it. Atlas matches files to a client using the client's first name and surname as they appear in AdvisoryAI, so name files consistently.

Ask Atlas to summarise a fact find, pull out the figures from an illustration, or build a pre-meeting brief, and it draws on the SharePoint documents alongside everything already in AdvisoryAI for that client. For a client linked to Intelliflo, it reads the Intelliflo data as well.

The pre-meeting brief is where this earns its keep. The soft facts that make a meeting feel personal usually sit in an older transcript or fact find rather than in the latest figures, and if those files live in SharePoint, Atlas can read them for the brief without anyone attaching them first.

Please note: access follows the Microsoft account, so a user who can see the whole site gives Atlas the whole site. If you need Atlas limited to specific folders for that user, email support@advisoryai.com with the site name and the folders; the team checks whether a folder restriction can be set for your firm and replies with the options.

Other document sources

  • Intelliflo documents. For a client added from Intelliflo, documents on their Intelliflo record are listed as suggestions when you create a report and download only when you select one. The file name in Intelliflo must end in its extension ("fact find.pdf" works, "fact find" does not).
  • Document stores that feed Intelliflo. AdvisoryAI cannot read a separate document store directly. If that store files documents into the client's Intelliflo record, they come across in the Intelliflo pull.
  • Drag and drop. Files on OneDrive, a shared drive or your desktop can be dropped into the client's Documents tab, into the inputs when you create a report, or into an Atlas chat. An Atlas chat takes up to 10 files per message.
  • Sending back to Intelliflo. A generated report cannot be saved into the Intelliflo document store; only fact-find fields go back. Save it to SharePoint, or download it and upload it to Intelliflo yourself.

Also asked

Is the SharePoint integration basically just there to replace drag and drop?

Yes, that is what it was built for. Downloading a file from SharePoint and uploading it again meant two copies and the version control problems that follow. With SharePoint connected you go to the client, then Documents, then Attach from SharePoint, and finished reports save back into SharePoint as DOCX or PDF, so the file in SharePoint is the file AdvisoryAI used. Atlas reading SharePoint directly, described above, is the part that goes beyond a replacement for drag and drop.

Does each of us need to connect SharePoint, or just one person?

Each user connects their own Microsoft account. One person connecting does not give colleagues access, and what Atlas can see for each user follows that user's own SharePoint permissions.

Can I book a short session on how AdvisoryAI reads SharePoint?

Yes. Email support@advisoryai.com with the folders you keep client documents in and a couple of dates; the team sets up a short call, because how files match to clients depends on your folder structure and file naming, which the team can only see with you.

Next steps

  • Open an Atlas chat, select a client whose documents live in SharePoint, and ask for a summary of their latest fact find to check the matching works.
  • To share example files with the support team, a SharePoint folder works; email support@advisoryai.com and the team will tell you where to point it.
